Now here’s a collaboration with potential. Sebastian Rochford is one of the most exciting, innovative (and hairiest) drummers in the UK. He is perhaps best known for his work with Mercury Prize nominees Polar Bear, or with now-defunct jazz-punk outfit Acoustic Ladyland, both of which helped show a large number of people that jazz really isn’t boring at all.
Pamelia Kurstin, meanwhile, is apparently one of the world’s leading theremin players. She has collaborated with David Byrne, amongst others, and Bob Moog think she’s the business.
The pair have made an album together, called Ouch Evil Slow Hop and mixed by Portishead’s Adrian Utley. ‘Ouch’, the first piece to be made available from the record, is a thudding, bass-heavy track that sits somewhere between Herbie Hancock, Archie Shepp, and Venetian Snares.
Ouch Evil Slow Hop is out on Slowfoot on 13 June.
