Listen: School - "SoLong" [UK Premiere]
After winning critical acclaim in their native Sweden, Gothenburg’s School have set their sights on the UK with their first single “SoLong”, premiering today on Best Fit.
From ABBA to Avicii, pop masterminds have long been one of Sweden’s top exports. With “SoLong”, this four-piece are making a strong play to become the latest. Though it was written, recorded and released in just seven days, this is tightly constructed and immaculately played pop. Drums stay in the pocket, rarely straying from a basic, propulsive beat. Light, airy guitars drift in and out over a slithering, otherworldly bass line that drives the song from start to finish. Meanwhile, the powerful vocals are allowed to waver in all the right places, bringing Lauren Mayberry’s work in Chvrches immediately to mind.
Should they keep up the good work, School will make their home country proud.
“SoLong” is set for its UK release on 1 September.
