That’s right – we’ve hit the big three double zero. I was going to run something relevant to this arbitrary milestone of metric numericism, but the best I could come up with was the soundtrack to 300. And that film was pretty shit, right?
Instead, here’s something that might go some way to restoring your now close-to-obliterated faith in guitar music: ‘Backgrounds’, a new track from Sauna Youth.
Individual members of this London/Brighton band have been in some excellent UK punk outfits before (membership of Captain Everything is a badge that should be worn with pride), and it shows. ‘Backgrounds’ is trashy, fun, intelligent and daft all at once. It is catchy as hell, it has an enormous chorus, and it is rough around the edges in all the very best ways. Hugely enjoyable.
‘Backgrounds’ is out as part of a split 7″ with Ale Mania, out now on Faux Discx.
