Kompakt are very good at controlled emotion. The Berlin label’s catalogue is bursting with understated pearls – and it makes sense, then, for Saschienne‘s debut album to bear the Kompakt logo.
Saschienne is a new project from BPitch man Sascha Funke, and his fiancé Julienne Dessagne. ‘Unknown’, the title track from their debut album, creeps along in unsettling fashion. Simple, house-informed synth patterns intertwine with uncomfortably close vocals, the track gradually swelling but never reaching a crescendo. It’s claustrophobic – unpleasant, even – but totally gripping.
Unknown is out 26 March.
