SASAMI fuses lo-fi instrumentals with angelic vocal delivery on wholesome new track "Not The Time"
LA's Sasami Ashworth, aka SASAMI, finds a balance of vibrant melodies and enchanting vocals on her bright and breezy new track "Not The Time".
SASAMI started scoring and making orchestral arrangements for films, commercials and studio albums straight after graduating from the Eastman School of Music in 2012, and was even a music teacher in LA.
"Not The Time" is the second offering from SASAMI after her debut single "Callous", and sees the multi-instrumentalist find angelic tones amongst the jagged and hazy instrumentals, much like a diamond in the rough.
Embracing the imperfections of the instrumentals, SASAMI utilises the raw energy of the melody to dish out spellbinding and heartfelt vocals that could sit beside Mitski.
Speaking about the two tracks which will appear on a limited 7" vinyl, SASAMI explains, ""Not the Time" and "Callous" are basically entries in the diary that is my first record of songs. Maybe it's a mix of a diary and a collection of letters; written but never sent, to people I've been intimately involved with in one way or another. Ok, maybe they're more like over-dramatic drafts of texts that you compose in the Notes section of your iPhone, but either way they come from a place of getting something off my chest. I wrote both of these songs on tour on a guitar on my iPad with GarageBand plugins and Moog 15 app sounds and then re-recorded them in the studio onto tape with really great tones. So it's kind of like emotionally scribbling a letter on a tear and snot-stained napkin and then re-writing it on fancy papyrus paper to make it look like you have your shit together."
Having just signed to Domino, SASAMI is a multi-talented artist who has previously contributed instrumentals to bands such as Cherry Glazerr, Dirt Dress, Curtis Harding, Wild Nothing, Hand Habits and more.
