Sarah Klang's "Fever Dream" is full of Americana-hued warmth and nostalgia
Once describing herself as “the saddest girl in Sweden”, the label fits no more for Gothenburg-based singer Sarah Klang, as she releases bright new single "Fever Dream" ahead of an upcoming third album, slated for release later in the year.
"Fever Dream" retains a semblance of the melancholic vibe and powerful vocals that have seen Sarah Klang become something of a regular nominee at the Grammis (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy awards) in recent years, with 2018’s debut album Love in the Milky Way taking home best album and 2019’s Creamy Blue receiving a nomination for the same. Her new track is also further proof of an altogether more hopeful sound.
Drawing comparisons to Katy J Pearson and fellow Swedes First Aid Kit, the folksy Americana on "Fever Dream" is full of warmth and nostalgia. And the inspiration for the track? “I was watching Beverly Hills Cop, then I got a fever and dreamt of a guy I was in love with,” explains Klang. That might also go some way towards explaining the slightly psychedelic video that accompanies the single, which also highlights a more playful, tongue-in-cheek side to the singer.
From the new track, plus the fresh Springsteen energy of her previous single "Canyon", it seems Sarah Klang is entering a new era with a sunnier outlook, and we’re all here for it.
