Santigold ft. Karen O – Go // Song Of The Day #238
Three years can seem like three decades in the realm of indie music. Bands like The Klaxons have recently failed to recreate the commercial success they both received earlier on in the their careers, thanks to a dramatic waning of interest from media and fans during the long breaks between LPs. It seems the pressure to be omnipresent – constantly blogged about and constantly in people’s minds – has never being so important.
We tend to forget that when it comes to certain things, especially music, it’s sometimes best to just let things blossom and take their nature course, in the hope that there will be something noteworthy in return for our patience.
Enter Santigold – who, after releasing a critically-loved debut in 2008 and taking part in a few choice collaborations, pretty much disappeared. ‘Go’ is the result of her hibernation – a combination of M.I.A-style rallying chants, battlecry percussion, hints of Blondie’s glacial tones, and Karen O‘s showstopping theatrics.
So Mum was right all along: good things do come to those that wait.
