Sussex songwriter Samuel Ford shares the simply gorgeous "Ballet" [Premiere]
Rye, Sussex native Samuel Ford brings us "Ballet", the first taste of his forthcoming debut EP, premiering today at Best Fit.
Though it follows his 2013 single "The Storm", "Ballet" is actually much more evocative of wicked weather than its predecessor. The bass drum pops throughout like thunderclap and the gentle breeze of feedback that graces the song's subtler moments builds into a squall as things reach a riveting climax. Ford's voice navigates these dark skies powerfully and with ease, matching the mood with an appropriately brooding drawl that rides the musical waves like a ghost ship caught in a tempest, refusing to be broadsided or capsized.
Ford says: "I wrote 'Ballet' as a kind of song-painting about the constant two-way struggle and tug of war as a relationship unfurls. Whilst the disintegration is always biased and one-sided for one person, it is equally the same for the other - leaving an almost dance-like introspective inspection to take place.”
EP 1 is set for release in May.
