Raleigh Moncrief has a pretty impressive CV. He co-produced the fantastic Bitte Orca, plays in Marnie Stern’s live band, has collaborated with crazed drummer par excellence Zach Hill – and is now the latest signing to Anticon, one of the world’s very best labels.
‘I Just Saw’ is, in fact, very Anticon. The wobbly synth, bric a brac percussion and wavering vocal hark back to cLOUDDEAD, while the sing-songy, nursery rhyme melody brings to mind some of the stronger moments on Josiah Wolf’s recent solo LP. It’s an oddly charming piece of forward-thinking, beautifully produced deconstructed pop music that bodes very well indeed for Watered Lawn, Moncrief’s forthcoming album.
Watered Lawn is out 25 October on Anticon. In the meantime, download ‘I Just Saw’ below.
