Listen: Radical Dads - "In The Water"
We’re caught in that limbo time where we cling to the summer’s last vestiges but also feel the chill and impending doom of longer nights breathing down our necks.
These Radical Dads folks – a twin guitar and drum trio from Brooklyn – have this tug of war feeling down perfectly with their latest single, “In The Water”. As one of four songs from an upcoming limited cassette release, the band pound their frosty dread home while offering glints of bulbous setting sunshine via intermittent arpeggios.
I’ve covered my fair share of ornate, studio-crafted fare as of late, and Radical Dads prove again the feral, unwitting charms of immediacy and rawness. Completely lacking a bass and with seemingly no more than a single, shitty, duct-taped amp, howler and one-half of the axe lineup, Lindsay Baker, drills her primordial angst straight to your brain all the while strangling the nervous energy from her guitar alongside axe twin Chris Diken.
Radical Dads’ limited edition – only 100 copies – cassette, Cassette Brain, is out 7 October courtesy of Old Flame Records and can be pre-ordered here.
