R.A.E makes nostalgia new on '90s inspired “Like This”
2020 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition winner R.A.E (pronounced arr-ay-ee) cements her position as one to watch with feel-good lead single “Like This”, from her new EP Listen Up.
With a bubbly pop energy and an instantly catchy hook, “Like This” is a summery, soulful R&B number from R.A.E, influenced by the likes of Left Eye, Da Brat and MC Lyte. The track opens with a little nod to Naughty by Nature’s 1992 classic “Hip Hop Hooray”, which infuses the track with a retro feel, or as R.A.E describes it “new nostalgia.”
Speaking about her new track, the South East London rapper says: “’Like This’ is about coming to the realisation that your life has evolved in a positive way. Appreciating how things have turned around for good and giving thanks to God. This song means a lot to me because I’ve taken risks in my life, especially the decision to quit working and follow my dreams.”
