There’s quite a little family blossoming around Canadian neo-darkwavers Austra. First, creepy folk twins Tasseomancy – and now, drummer Maya Postepski’s solo project, Princess Century.
‘Crummy Bones’, Princess Century’s first track, takes few prisoners. Its relentless two-chord figure continues unabated over the course of five and a half minutes, gradually expanded with layers of globular synths and deathlike pads. The drums, meanwhile, come in somewhere between industrial and chiptune. It’s quite hard work, but in the best possible way. And it’s almost certainly the first song we’ve featured that references osteoporosis in the title.
Princess Century plays CAMP Basement on 30 August, supporting (and drumming for) Tasseomancy. Meanwhile, stream ‘Crummy Bones’ below.
