Who’d have thought that back in July 2010 when we booked a nervous and self-consious Elephant for their debut live show they’d, over the course of 18 months, transform into the glacial and sleek pop maestros that new single ‘Assembly’ showcases so effortlessly. Well, Memphis Industries for a start who have been quietly buoying on this intriguing London based duo pretty much since their inception. There’s a quiet defiance on display here: an effortlessly cool (and strikingly beautiful) Amelia Rivas pouts over the 1980s-esque synth backdrop – Vince Clarke-era Depeche Mode meets the sexual prowess of Deborah Harry at her flirty best.
The Assembly EP is released via Memphis Industries on 14 November.
