If you’re looking for an exciting way to release the first music from a filthily distorted garage rock band, you could do worse than gold cassette. PINS, black-clad and hotly tipped, did just this, selling out an entire run of sparkling tapes pretty much instantly.
As loath as I am to make lazy gender comparisons, there is something very Polly Jean about the all-female PINS. The wavering, highly-strung vocal delivery instantly brings to mind Stories From The City, while the no-fi production fosters a sense that you are privy to an exciting event – Manchester’s most exciting garage band, playing in their actual garage.
‘Shoot You’ is taken from PINS’ debut cassette, a second run of which goes on sale today. The band play Liverpool Sound City on 19 May, on The Line Of Best Fit’s stage at the Wolstenholme Creative Space.
