PEAKES take a deep dive into isolation and loneliness on new minimalist pop cut "Still Life"
The Leeds-based electronic trio experiment with spatious soundscapes and stripped-back, minimalist textures on the intergalactic new single.
Opening with a simple, creeping synth melody and a crunching beat, Molly Puckering's vocals slowly saunter into the frame and begin to build this expansive spatiousness that embodies the essense of the track.
By exercising extreme patience and playing with silence and pauses, PEAKES successfully create a boundless sound that seems to extend across the universe, as each sound echoes into the abyss. The effect of this only adds to the sense of isolation and loneliness that plays at the heart of "Still Life".
Whilst it shimmers with an intergalactic sheen, Puckering's solitary vocals soar with a sombre undertone as though she is singing into a void. Speaking on the isolation that the song explores, Puckering adds "It's about the moments when you become so introverted you exist in your own universe. When you isolate yourself from the rest of the world and become dependent on your own company."
