First things first: everyone OK? Everyone riot-free today? Good.
Following two incredibly surreal days in London, I’m personally looking for something to take my mind off the strangeness of the city. Preferably something with lots of bass and the most ridiculous vocal sample imaginable. Pangaea is here to oblige.
‘Hex’, the latest release from the Hessle man, manages to be simultaneous semi-retro and also hyper-modern, with shuffling percussion and a distinctly mid-’90s melody interspersed with screaming, pitch-shifted vocals. Plus the kick drum sounds horribly, horribly good.
‘Hex’ is out as a double a-side, with ‘Fatalist’, on Hemlock on 12 September. It is also one of the standouts on Ben UFO’s forthcoming Rinse mix. You can stream both tracks below.
