Listen: Organised Scum - "Who's The Prick?"
Shakespeare asked, “What’s in a name?” Of course, The Bard was questioning the intrinsic value of the name itself against the object that it defines, offering the example of a rose smelling just as sweet under any other name.
Something tells me, though, Cambridge University droogs Organised Scum wouldn’t pack quite the same oomph under a different moniker. Employing a folk-driven indie rock backdrop, the trio specialises in shambolic, absurdist fare, their lackadaisical approach gleefully lending more credence to the “scum” half of their name.
The impeccably titled “Who’s The Prick?” from their newly released debut LP proves a fine example of their M.O. Frontman Tom Duggins asks the age-old, important question here in the context of sibling quarrels, vocally acquitting himself as a slacker Damon Albarn against the song’s loping shuffle.
Organised Scum’s debut album, Kind of Wild, is available digitally now at their Bandcamp page. Incidentally, as a bonus treat, the album download includes a much coveted cover of “Blurred Lines”.
