In the height of the Australian Summer, Oh Pep! left the sunshine of Melbourne for the snows of Lake Echo, Nova Scotia to record with Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant / Rich Aucoin / Rachel Sermanni). The result of taking to the snow is the forthcoming Living EP, due for release in August.
"The Race" is the first track to be taken from the EP, and appropriately enough it combines sunshine melodies with icy electronic pulses, textures and crisp handclaps. Like all great pop music it doesn’t overstay its welcome, riding the wave of strings and strip-down rhythms until it collapses just before the 3 minute mark.
With two EPs already under their belt and an award for Young Folk Performer of the Year from The Age Victoria, the band have already hit folk festivals across Australia, as well as playing Folk Alliance in Kansas. A North American tour is planned for Autumn.
If the rest of the EP can live up to the urgent promise of "The Race" it won’t be too long before fans of the likes of Lucius, Andrew Bird and Lake Street Drive start to take notice.
