Norwegian artist Es May stuns with powerful debut single "Wake Me Up"
Oslo-based singer/songwriter Es May enters our lives with titanic power ballad "Wake Me Up", her debut solo single.
Es May - who had a big hit last summer with producer Stisema - is branching out on her own with "Wake Me Up", a gargantuan song about being in an abusive relationship.
Twinkling synths and house-inspired melodies twirl around bonfire-crackle beats as Es May takes an impressive stride into the world of music by herself. Her voice shakes bones and sends shivers - every syllable is stuffed with emotion as she beckons for the instrumentals to match her dizzying levels of strength. At the start, "Wake Me Up" is an intimate, ear-whispering ode; by the end it's grand and overwhelming.
"It’s always hard to get out of something even though you know it’s unhealthy. Love can be so beautiful, but it can also inflict so much pain," says Es May, aka Malin Strandberg, of the song's thematic roots.
