Nightworks x San Zhi – I Tried So Hard [Best Fit Premiere]
- San Zhi
Arguably, the key to a truly great remix is to embellish upon the original and indeed – where possible – to improve upon it. Here, San Zhi take Nightworks’ ‘I Tried So Hard’ (originally released for Record Store Day back in April) and completely own it – in every sense of the word.
Taking the contemplative piano signature of the original, the duo practically build a brand new song around it. The refrain “I tried so hard not to lose you, I tried so hard not to care” used as a chorus to all new additional verses and sung in hushed tones by Suraya adds a whole new level of heartbreak and longing to Nightworks’ original. The result is a wonderful addition to San Zhi’s small body of work, and further ignites our ever building excitement for the groups very bright future.
San Zhi’s debut release – the Ice Light EP – is out November 12. Head to East London’s Servant Jazz Quarters tomorrow night (8 November) to catch them live. Also out on November 12 is Nightworks new single ‘Modern European’ – released by the ever reliable Loose Lips Records.
