‘I Tried So Hard’, the debut single from Night Works, is an exercise in beautiful simplicity. An unassuming piano figure, a single vocal line, and a reverby snare are the uncomplicated elements which, in these hands, combine to produce something utterly lovely. A melancholic, late-night-early-morning romantic confusion soundtrack of the highest order.
