Listen: Neonfaith – 'Lowlands'
While the de rigeur mystique that envelopes the early months of a new band is equal parts protectiveness, posturing and a reaction to the age of oversharing, NYC trio Neonfaith managed to undercut our often weary cynicism with an initial reach-out that simply read “please listen…we don’t suck”.
It was more telling than they probably realised, revealing an earnest DIY ambition within the pulsating bedroom R&B hybrid and a set of beats more than a little out of the ordinary. ‘Tied Together‘ and ‘Escape‘ offered a rough diamond gleam alongside an oddly refreshing blend of influences; strong remixes of LDR and Little Dragon followed.
The band’s six track debut EP streams later today and showcases three new cuts that find the band stepping up their game. A move away from the understated to the celebratory sees confident vox laid down across a production pushing the extremes of the uptempo and downbeat. Singer Megan’s swaggery delivery continues to impress too and ’Lowlands’ – premiering today on Best Fit – finds the trio (Lay and Fef are the remaining two thirds, providing beats and keys) in good form.
Listen below then head over to the band’s soundcloud to hear the EP in its entirety before it’s available for download on 1 October.
