The Thing are one of the best live bands in the world. The Scandinavian jazz trio laid waste to Field Day two years ago, clearly attempting to paste people to the back wall of the tent through sheer weight of noise.
Now the band have teamed up with Neneh Cherry for a collaborative album called, funnily enough, The Cherry Thing. The latest track to materialise from the project is this outstanding cover of ‘Accordion’, the original of which appeared on 2004′s Madvillainy - itself a collaboration between Madlib and DOOM. Cherry and The Thing’s version has a Waitsy bar-stool lilt, constantly threatening to descend into full-on dementia.
Stream the track below – and then make sure that you listen to The Thing’s extraordinary ‘Hidegen Fujnaka Szelek’, taken from 2009′s Bag It!.
