I genuinely don’t understand why Brasstronaut aren’t huge. Their debut record, last year’s Mount Chimera, was a gripping, startlingly mature set of inventive, erudite pop songs that, despite good reviews, inexplicably passed rather unnoticed.
Latest single ‘Opportunity’ sees the Canadian band in rather more melodramatic form. The track, with its tin-can percussion, ‘Ghost Town’ guitar and sprawling bassline, sounds rather like a highlight from a lost Andrew Lloyd Webber score. It’s fantastically detailed, somehow incorporating elements of musical theatre and ‘Born Slippy’-esque early 2000s dance.
‘Opportunity’ is out 19th September on Unfamiliar – but you can download it here for free, for 24 hours only.
