LA's Milo Greene preview new LP with lush demo lullaby "Never Mean It"
Milo Greene are sharing a handful of demos ahead of the release of their third album. "Never Mean It" might just be a demo at this stage, but its ideas are practically fully-formed.
Pinned on shadowy '80s synths and faint bongo lulls, "Never Mean It" sleeps contently in a lullaby nest for the first half of the song. Here, co-lead vocalist Marlana Sheetz sings a melody that harks oddly to Nirvana's "Come As You Are", meandering its way around hushed components until enveloped in gospel unison.
This joining of voices is quietly powerful with the refrain "but you never say/what you really want" laboured to a perfect point over distorted guitars and subtle reverb.
Speaking about the track, bandmember Graham Fink says: "'Never Mean It' started in Robbie's living room with a minimal bongo groove. We started laying down simple moody guitar lines, and Marlana came up with this flowing verse melody. Robbie and I started singing responses and eventually we created this swell of bellowing vocals that showcased the frustration within the lyric."
"Never Mean It" previews Milo Greene's third release following 2012's self-titled album and 2015's Control on Atlantic Records.
