Mikky Ekko – Pull Me Down (Prod. by Clams Casino)
On first listen, one could assume this collab could have easily been commissioned by Converse, Adidas, or whatever latest shoe retailer is working on bringing artists together in the studio while swagged out in their “ favourite” brand. This track is almost too perfect. We didn’t know Jason Mraz had a twin.
All kidding aside, this track is infectious, with an organic quality that wraps itself around you and convinces you to listen one more time. Clams Casino takes a reserved backseat in the big bass, production hat trick department in exchange for subtle signature breathy whisps of Clammy essence, and using those producer skills that have graced the tracks of everyone from Lil’ Be The Based God and A$AP Rocky to Mac Miller and The Weeknd, to take full advantage of the drum snares, crystalline piano notes and delicate guitar chords all in an attempt to showcase this studio-quality pureness and endearing authenticity to of Mikky Ekko’s voice. Humble yet polished RnB sentiments that seem more suited for an auditorium of adoring fans than an indie hip hop track pierce through octaves and give the impression Mikky at one time might have been a decent rapper, and has now graduated to singer and producer to watch in 2013.
Mikky’s debut album drops next year with the help of legendary producers Paul Epworth, John Hill, Dave Sitek, and, of course, Clams Casino.
