“Oh God” is a lo-fi cut of self-examination from marinelli
Having started out as Billie Eilish's drummer, producer extraordinaire marinelli examines feelings of apathy, loneliness and depression on “Oh God”.
Having cut his teeth as a producer, working with Spill Tab and Wallice amongst others, marinelli is finding his feet as a solo artist. His independently-released new single “Oh God” is tethered by delicate Rhodes piano chords as it gradually builds to a climax of clipped distortion, while the lyrics place his claustrophobic feelings squarely under the microscope.
“Living with some pain I could live without,” he describes before delving into the clever but all too heartbreaking simile of, “everything I’m saying tastes like backwash.”
Speaking on the track, marinelli says, "This song is about feeling intense emotions that you know you should let simmer before expressing - the song came to be when I was sitting in the parking lot of the LA court where I was doing jury duty. I was feeling pretty upset about something in my life and I hated that feeling of 'sitting in my car' and feeling sorry for myself without driving or getting out."
His new release is drenched in bleak imagery and pulled along against its own will, bringing to the fore a continuation of introspection that has characterised many of his recent releases. With his debut EP dropping later this year, brace yourself for some razor-sharp self-examination from the promising LA-based artist.
