LVRA's heritage fully embraces her reflective new track “Wall”
Showing us that all is not lost in her latest release, LVRA (aka Rachel Lu) initially wrote “Wall” following a messy break-up, and was inspired to finish the track following a trip to China.
LVRA reaches new sonic heights with the incorporation of traditional Chinese guzheng instrument themes layered over her signature trap-inspired beats, allowing her heritage to fully embrace her latest release. The result is a carefully chaotic triumph that foreshadows her upcoming debut EP LVCID breathing new life into the alt-pop world.
The track’s self-shot visualiser captures the serenity of a country that current media can neglect to acknowledge in a positive light. Populated with own footage and photos from her most recent trips to China, it illustrates what LVRA hoped to achieve in completing “Wall” - “I wanted to turn the pain that I felt into something hopeful.” - A sentiment we can all currently relate too well to.
“I've been visiting my extended family in China pretty much every year since I can remember. Its only in the last couple of years that I took the opportunity to explore more of this vast country. I completely fell in love with its natural beauty and the generous locals I encountered, and the last couple times I went I took a couple extra memory cards and a phone gimbal to try and capture some of it. Most of the footage was taken on my phone on the back of a motorbike.
“I’d only ever stay in the same place for a day or two, and so that constant movement you see in the video reflects that journey. Riding down those little winding roads and through the mountains, towns and motorways is a feeling and image I will never forget. Although I’ve travelled in every direction of the country now, I still feel like I have still barely scratched the surface.
“China, a country I always associated with chaotic crowds, city smoke and the impatience of a fast-developing country, became a place to escape the reality of life and reflect. Ever since, I’ve been on a new little journey of trying capture that feeling of awe and wonder, and those reflections I had whilst out there.”
