Lucy Sunday unveils graceful debut single “December Love”
Simplicity is a powerful weapon: avoiding clutter and giving the important components the space they deserve to deliver the message with grace and assurance. This appears to be one of the main briefs for Lucy Sunday.
The Echo Park, California-native lets her captivating vocal do the work, cascading effortlessly above minimal, reverberating production. It aligns the newcomer with the likes of Rhye, Laura Welsh, while melodically hinting gently at the crying tones of FKA twigs.
It’s a beautiful, melancholic break-up song that suits the autumn, that stage of the year where we begin to contemplate. “What if I just called you up? / what if you just answered? / I can’t seem to give you up, December Love” Sunday muses yearningly at the song’s outset. The tone is set and she has our attention with immediate poise and purpose.
