LOYAL blend classic house with subdued atmospherics on new track “House For You”
Following the success of their catchy, house-infused banger “Blue & The Green” – backed by the likes of Radio 1’s dance doyenne Annie Mac – LOYAL repeat the trick with “House For You”.
True to its title, the track opens with a thudding, distant, four-to-the-floor. Over the beat, ethereal piano chords nod to disco, a feeling enhanced by layers of retro sounding synths, shakers and clicked fingers.
The production, however, feels modern and stylish. Short electric guitar hooks cut through the warm textures, calling to mind The xx’s iconic “Intro” and “VCR”. Over the atmospheric instrumental, echoing, musing vocals drift across the top line: “if I took the sand out of the hourglass/I could build a new beach for you”.
“House For You” is infectious, in part because it skips and manipulates genres with ease; there are R&B rhythms, soulful vocals, 80s glitchy electronics and indie inflections – all underpinned by the kind of summery house beat that is sure to get your head bobbing.
What makes this track golden, however, is its unashamed, danceable borrowings from classic house, and its pared back, filtered and almost subdued feel. This delicate balance of two musical polarities sets LOYAL and “House For You” above others in the same field.
Signed to Good Years - the label behind BANKS, Lil Silva and more - LOYAL have every chance of further success with the intriguing and forward-looking “House For You”.
