Danish band Lowly craft pretty noise pop with new track “Fire” [Premiere]
Lowly emerged in 2014 as a band to watch with their effervescent debut single “Daydreamers”. The Danish quintet continues to hit the mark with new single “Fire”. This spirited slice of noise pop premieres today.
The delight in listening to “Fire” is one that blooms from the way the song subverts itself. “Fire” begins as a jaunt of a pop tune driven along by a punchy piano melody and brightly cascading synths. After unwinding the song into a woozy, swoonsome stupor, Lowly liven the whole affair up again. It's a triumphant and skillful finish.
Of “Fire”, the band states:
“Fire was a lot like our first single 'Daydreamers', a song that found its form and sound really fast. In the beginning of the process we were actually surprised that it worked so well considering how simple the song is with its pounding piano rhythm and repetitions. But sometimes simple is better. We have tried to keep it on the borderline of being very mainstream, with a sort of melancholic normcoreness - something dated but familiar, like a memory of your teens when you were sad and in love, but the crush only lasted a month and you would move on, finding new loves as well as new frustrations to explore.”
In support of the single, the band hit Denmark’s festival circuit with a performance at SPOT Festival on 1 May and at Roskilde this summer.
