South London songstress WALL has unveiled the title track from her forthcoming EP, Shoestring, out via Big Picnic on 1 April.
There’s a familiar and reassuring magic at work throughout ‘Shoestring’. Perhaps it’s Lyla Foy’s delightfully earnest verses rolled out in her trademark soothing hushed vocal, the gently teased guitars, or that muffled snare drum ticking away like the hands of an antique clock that fill us with mirth.
Ultimately though its allure lies in simplicity. By paring back her selection of instruments and carefully arranging each delicately plucked note; WALL has created a quirky canvas for her sweet tones to reach out and make a sincere connection with attentive listeners. ‘Shoestring’ is the very definition of perfect harmony.
