Listen: Peter Broderick - "The Reconnection" [Premiere]
Peter Broderick is debuting new single "The Reconnection" on Best Fit, and it's our Song Of The Day.
It's taken from upcoming record Colours Of The Night, Broderick's follow up to 2012's It Starts Hear, which was recorded with Nils Frahm. The forthcoming album was recorded in a residency in Lucerne, Switzerland, and features the talents of local musicians. Speaking about the process, Broderick said: "I arrived with a pile of songs and just sort of watched as they got carried through the filter of this group of musicians who were coming from an entirely different place. It was exciting to let go a little bit, to simplify and consolidate my own role in the music."
The Oregon native, who suffered a bout in hospital due to stress following his last record, took a much needed break for Colours Of The Night. The result is an invigorated record that sees him showcase confidence in his own abilities. "The Reconnection" is a prime example of this: fusing '50s rock-pop vibes, country-flecked guitars and a Jens Lekman sweetness, the track gently sways rather than catastrophically lunging. It's a subtle ode to complex love - "come close to me, I want to smell your hair/I remember your body but your soul I do not dare to recall" - and Broderick uses these subtleties to make something that gets embedded in your brain. It's timeless.
Broderick's LP Colours Of The Night is out 27 April on Bella Union.
