Listen: Paddy Hanna - "Austria" [Premiere]
Singing and songwriting Dubliner Paddy Hanna is showing off his galloping new single "Austria" exclusively on Best Fit.
Fusing a Morrissey-flecked baritone with classic songwriting of the '60s and '70s - think Elvis Costello - Hanna spins a piece of charged heartbreak in "Austria". Sodden with emotional refrains and country-western staples, his charming folk are the result of blending '80s indie-pop with aging Americana. It's bewitching, and deservedly our Song Of The Day.
The single will be packaged with B-side "Camaraderie", of which Hanna says: "Last summer I was crippled with depression, to the point where I was physically and mentally too sick to stand. I spent many weeks alone in my cottage growing ever more paranoid of the outside world and the joyful cheers of the summer crowd. The song (camaraderie) concerns losing touch with how it feels to be human in a tourist town."
"Austria" is released 11 May via Trout. Both tracks on the release were recorded/produced with Mark Chester. You can pre-order it here.
