To coincide with her signing to Arts & Crafts, the Canadian label set up by Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, Lowell is properly ready to burst onto the scene in her own right after already making a name for herself working with supergroup Apparatjik. It’s the rowdy, it’s the in-your-face, “Cloud 69″.
The lead single from her upcoming EP, I Killed Sara V out on 25 February, “Cloud 69″ is a hell of a thump in the gut. Full of ricocheting beats, frentic guitar and a real punch the air chorus, it’s a tune that makes you feel like you can take on the world.
With shades of Metric at their most fun and the slight experimental offbeat stylings of Grimes, it’s a real anthemic tune that is almost impossible not to dance along to as the army of Lowells lead you on this merry march. “Cloud 69″ is the sort of track that wouldn’t gently wake you up but, instead, fling back the curtains and chuck you across the room to dust away those morning cobwebs. A powerhouse pop smash.
