Listen: Josh Record – “For Your Love” (Dot Major Remix) [Premiere]
“For Your Love” by London singer-songwriter Josh Record was a track that dominated airwaves last year, with hype shout-outs on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show and repeated spins on Amazing Radio. The latest act to get their mitts on Record’s celestial acoustica is London Grammar’s Dot Major, playing with the original like it was a toy.
Twinkly guitars are blurred amongst eerie synths on the rework, where Record’s vocals twist and weave between gentle trip-hop beats. Major is mindful to keep the original’s structure intact for the majority of the remix before, almost gratuitously, throwing its relaxed pace into disarray with spinning DnB beats and menacing synth patterns. It’s a remix that needs close attention to decipher just how Major has chipped away at the original, turning it into something, well, rather different by the end.
“For Your Love” is re-released on 7 April via Virgin Records. and is currently back on the Radio 1 playlist.
