Friends make a surprise return today with the first fruits to arise from their recently rejigged lineup (you can probably catch up with the gossip over on Perez Hilton or Hipster Runoff if you feel so inclined) and, like every good comeback, the Brooklyn group have thrown a curve ball – reinventing themselves as purveyors of the FM power ballad. Sweet.
Really though, ‘The Way’ is pure decadence. A neon flecked wet dream. It has it all: flutters of slap bass, over zealous electric guitar licks and Samantha Urbani projecting some serious Mariah vibes. The whole thing drips with more sexual tension than Prince’s loin cloth.
If this is the sign of things to come, then Friends MK II are a seriously exciting proposition indeed.
