A relative newcomer with only two fairly low-key releases under her belt; diminutive singer DeLooze showed her mettle recently, blitzing a sold-out Electrowerkz with her infectious tonic of crunchy, industrial instrumental sections and pop diva vocal hooks.
The fiery singer is to release ‘Lost Army’, her third single – the first from her forthcoming debut LP – via Giant Haystacks/Label Fandango on 1 July and we’re delighted to host the first thrilling listen below.
Sharply rasping beats and meaty bass riffs form the backbone of the melody; a boisterous springboard for DeLooze’s magnetic alterations in tone and pitch. But beneath the distorted rhythm section lie some rather more delicate textures: spritely idiophones, perfumed brass and softly stabbing synth strings. Only when these contrasting elements meet in the final, glorious cacophony does ‘Lost Army’ transcend to the status of gothic-pop gem. Who said less is always more anyway?
