LANNDS' new single "Wide Awake" is a slow-burning work of art
“Wide Awake”, the new single from 22 year old Jacksonville resident LANNDS, is an intelligent bedroom electronica masterpiece.
Born Rania Woodard, LANNDS has been making music since she was 14, playing blues guitar whilst surrounded by the sound of her family’s gospel church. This unorthodox background for an electronic artist means that LANNDS manages to stand out in a crowded field, although in the eight years since then the guitar has been swapped for a synth and the gospel influence pared back into a fragile yet powerful vocal. This vocal effortlessly weaves its way over the top of the track, letting LANNDS carry the listener along with her as she muses, “Running round in circles/Is this all in my head?”
With “Wide Awake” LANNDS shows that she’s not afraid to be different, and this disregard for what everybody else is doing pays off in a big way. It’s a slow moving river of a song, placid and calming, yet ultimately incredibly powerful.
