Land Lines share dark avant-pop track "Plans" ahead of new album [Premiere]
Martina Grbac of Denver trio Land Lines may not fully understand the power of her voice. No, we're not talking stadium-size vocals à la Adele; we're talking the kind of hypnotic, bewitched vocal that hits that sweet spot between heart and mind. New track "Plans" is her perfect canvass.
It may not come to fruition until later into the track, but her opening ghostly wails do enough to tease from the offset. Swooping in among krautrock-esque interplay between terse synth melodies and a driving beat, it starts life as an untamed beast before humanising at the verses. "There are no right decisions / only decisions we make" Grbac asserts as the song propels forward.
Just shy of the four minute mark her spectral cries return as beats morph and root notes ring, bringing Warpaint's "Keep It Healthy" much to mind.
It's the kind of music that refuses to exit. It refuses to be forgotten for the indefinable emotional effect it's had on you. We'll be playing it again and again.
