Kwamie Liv's "Follow My Heart" is a brooding summertime jam that takes its time
Danish-Zambian artist Kwamie Liv presents a masterclass in effortlessly cool melody-making with simmering new track "Follow My Heart".
"Follow My Heart" sees Kwamie Liv roll her words over a brooding beat as intergalactic synths ricochet off the sides of the tantalising melodies. Nothing seems rushed in the production, where every note has its place and where Kwamie Liv's unique delivery floats with an elegant and utterly enchanting ease.
The track revels in endless adventure, which is only heightened by the cinematic video that only adds to the deep-seated sense of youthful adandonment and wearing your heart on your sleeve, despite any of the consequences that might come from it.
Speaking on the track, Kwamie Liv says "'Follow my Heart' was written at a really fast time last year. There was changes in my private life, I was traveling a lot in between working on my upcoming album, and had just come home from a road trip across America with two friends who were somewhat in the same phase of life as I was - all of us going 100 miles an hour but also really appreciating our freedom and meeting amazing people along the way.
"For the video, I wanted to direct something that reflected that off-the-cuff raw energy. No big set up, just the DOP, Taj and I walking around with a camera looking for that golden moment. When my friends Jeffrey and Dawanna walked in, it was obvious. They both embody this beautiful balance between fierce strength and vulnerability, something I really admire in people. I was basically like "We're going for a walk- just do you."
The song comes alongside the announcement of her upcoming album Lovers that Come and Go, which is due out later this year.
