Listen: Kinky Love - "Sugar" [Premiere]

27 January 2015, 09:45 | Written by Cerys Kenneally

Chicago trio Kinky Love formed in 2013 haven taken recluse since October to produce their melt-in-the-mouth single "Sugar". Premiering today on Best Fit, it elegantly seduces and satisfies the synth sweet tooth.

Kinky Love dive straight into a spacey haze of glistening, tranquil synths and soft, unceasing drums that divert through a winding path similar to the likes of Purity Ring. With Xoe Wise's sweet, angelic vocals, the delicate synths heighten the captivating composure of the song, dipping delightfully into the delicious dream of the syrupy track.

It's impossible to not imagine oneself in a tranquil state as the keys tap away blissfully. The fragility is undoubtedly amorous, twisting into a precious four-minute break from any bitter reality.

Having released their debut EP Promise last April, "Sugar" elevates Kinky Love's ability to be rid of any blandness seeping in like a dreaded breeze and highlights the romanticism surrounding such a sensual, heavenly sound.

Speaking about the track, keyboardist Dan Zima sad: "I knew that 'Sugar' was going to work out when Xoe sang a great melody just based on what the early demo was called." Wise adds: "'Sugar' was one that came pretty easily, with a new set of sounds that Dan had started working on. He was feeling sweet and sexy on this track, so I tried to bring that out vocally." "It was fluffy and soft from the beginning, and it spoke to Xoe right away," agrees Alan Shinkunas (keys, backing vocals). "'Sugar' sounded sweet before we even knew what it was going to turn into."

"Sugar" (available now as a free download) and forthcoming single "Counting On Distance" were mixed by Balthazar de Ley (Smashing Pumpkins, Iron and Wine).
