Ever get the feeling you’re missing something? When everyone else seems to be going mad for a song, or a book, or a film, and you just don’t get it?
That’s pretty much how I felt about ‘Cyan’, Kindness‘ last track. It was pitched somewhere around wonky, house-inflected funk, but ended up sounding a bit contrived.
‘SEOD’, though, is what is colloquially referred to as “the shit”. It’s the sound of a woozy, amphetamine-addled wander round the halls of some mysterious mid-’70s disco; there’s some screechy sax playing in a room somewhere that you can’t quite find, and bits of vocals keep turning up and then vanishing again as if you imagined them – but wherever you go there’s a soft, reassuringly solid kick drum to keep the panic at bay.
‘SEOD’ is out on white label in January.
