Brand new 18-year-old pop soloist Keyes shares sterling debut single "Veins"
There's certainly no shortage of pop in the music blogosphere. But good pop? That's not so consistent. Say hello to some of the good stuff by Hand In Hive's new signing, 18-year-old Keyes.
The Warwickshire soloist externalises the internal with lyrics "stuck in my veins / [...] I could eat you up the same" over a shifting bed of skittering beats and bright, majestic synths. Her vocal staccato that clips each phase is subtlety reminiscent of Lorde's studio-ready husk - not to mention more Kiwi comparisons with Broods' brand of euphoric pop.
It's early doors but with "Veins" Keyes could well become a strong contender on the pop playing field. Let's just hope we don't have to wait too long to hear more.
