South East London’s KEYAH/BLU spins intimate tales on “If You Know”
Rising London rapper KEYAH/BLU shares the eclectic and entrancing sound of new single "If You Know" taken from the forthcoming collection Sorry, I Forgot You Were Coming.
Building tracks around personal experiences, KEYAH/BLU’s nocturnal pop is devilishly experimental. Lavishing these dark rhythms with textured electronics, “If You Know” showcases the South East London rapper's ability to create glitchy performance art.
With additional production from South London producer Joy Orbison, “If You Know’s dance floor ready rhythms are studded with sharp kick drums and murky house beats. Synths spark across the rich soundscape, popping and flashing like a glittering shower of fireworks. It’s entrancing.
“‘If You Know’ is dealing with your shit in a dark room and saying ‘this is me and I’m okay with that’” she offers on her new single. “I wanted to play around with textures that felt new to me.
"It’s not easy being vocal about doing certain things you, yourself, are super comfortable with in a world that wants you to think you’re wrong or undesirable for doing so,” KEYAH/BLU continues. "I wanted the lyrics to reflect that. If you know, you know.”
