Stones Throw remains one of the most exciting (and most generous) labels in the world. Following an unfortunate period in which it seemed like they existed solely to put out “previously unheard” Dilla tracks, the legendary California imprint is back on form.
This fascinating, triptych-like track is a good indication of the standard of talent currently on Stones Throw. ‘The Days Have Turned’ features vocal contributions from Illa J and The Stepkids, injected into a beautiful collection of beats, strings, and pads pieced together by Jonti. Each of the three sections here could be world-beating tracks in their own right. Together they take on the character of the hyper-ambitious, hyper-compressed score for a forgotten ‘90s sci-fi masterpiece.
