Jonquil‘s Lions is probably one of the most-played records I own. It’s a quietly beautiful, perfectly poised set of songs that, like every good album, has become synonymous with a very specific time in my life.
The band has been quiet for the last couple of years while frontman Hugo focused on Chad Valley. Now, though, they are back with a new record – the first single from which is called ‘It’s My Part’.
Here, awkwardly monikered headdress enthusiast Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs gives the track a pop-house workover, all endless vocal delays and marching band snares. About as far from Lions as it’s possible to get, but just as charming – and, this time, significantly more danceable.
