Jockstrap debut their eclectic but elegant pop sound on sumptuous new song "Hayley"
Jockstrap are Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye, a London-based duo who have been quietly simmering in the shadows and working up a name for themselves. And now they're ready to come out of hiding and make their debut.
"Hayley" is a song that was inspired by Louis Theroux's documentary about sex workers in the United States, and outlines the somewhat sordid, somewhat charming story that Ellery composed about one of the prostitutes in the documentary, as she says “There’s this prostitute called Hayley, she’s very charming, intelligent, gorgeous. Louis falls for her - the chemistry is so blatant. It’s about her, and the back story I made up about her.”
Laden with soft beats, gushing strings and Ellery's deceptively sweet vocals, the synth-driven track will no doubt only add fuel to fire when it comes to the hype and expectation that surrounds Jockstrap as they continue to venture into unexplored new pop territory, pushing the boundaries with each move they make.
Driven mostly by 20-year-old Skye, Jockstrap first came together last year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and have since quietly made a name for themselves as a highly exciting new pop prospect, gaining them performance slots at Pitchfork Paris and Iceland Airwaves later this year as well as a support slot with fellow pop pioneers Lets Eat Grandma. They're definitely ones to keep an eye on.
