JFDR - Best Fit One to Watch for 2017 - unveils sublime New York City-inspired "Wires"
With each new song we hear from Brazil, the upcoming solo record from Samaris and Pascal Pinon's Jófríður Ákadóttir, the more excited we become.
"Wires" continues Ákadóttir's path as JFDR in embracing non-linear expresisonism in popular music. It is "the total and complete anthem to my first visit to New York," she explained to KEXP recently. "The beginning of that part of the journey, taking the leap and making the album without further ado."
The song matches shuffling percussion against Ákadóttir's vocal before breaking into a affecting duel between voice and guitar. Eschewing traditional song structures, it's a song for the head as much as the heart, like most of the Icelandic musician's work.

Once again, multi-instrumentalist and producer Shahzad Ismaily - who has collaborated with the likes of Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits and Lou Reed - is credited by Ákadóttir as vital part of the song. "In the process of making 'Wires' I learned about Shahzad’s incredible intuition and abilities to play the mixing console like an instrument," she says.
