Expansive dark synths light the way for Jeida Woods on his dynamic new single "Ultraviolet"
The Zambian-born, Sydney-based artist proves he's just as comfortable creating all-out cinematic masterpieces as he is making us swoon with tantalising slow jams.
The latest track to be lifted from his forthcoming debut EP, due out later in the year through Australian tastemaking icons Future Classic, Woods reveals his most maximalist work to date.
Making beats in his bedroom since the age of 15, his hard work has certainly paid off. He's already released what's shaping up to be an eclectic catalogue of music, despite having a mere four tracks to his name. We've been hooked from his vulnerable debut "Senseless".
"Ultraviolet" is a step-up in many ways and marks a real arrival for this rising star. Merging his contemporary R&B influences with the world of fast-paced internet culture, hip hop references and an explosive hook, the result is a powerful pop song ready to soundtrack the darkest of nights.
Produced and co-written by Taka Perry (Ruel, Mallrat), "Ultraviolet" is dramatic, ominous and brooding. It sees Woods tell a tale of romantic betrayal and explore themes intimacy, both of which are recurring features in his music. His vocals are once again his most powerful asset, Woods' voice guides you through this twisted tale with its sweet tone contrasting its dark setting.
The track's music video further exemplifies his storytelling skills setting the lyrics into motion with a gripping visual narrative. It's never been more exciting to see Woods' talents flourish.
